Retro Sketches #116

Happy Memorial Day weekend...hope you all have a fun and safe holiday and enjoy the extra time with your families. My card was inspired by this holiday, red, white and blue always make for a fabulous card. When I saw this week's sketch for Retro Sketches #116, I knew I did not want to make a circle and I also wanted to use some of my supplies that have not seen any love. I pulled out my stitched star dies from Lil Inkers but they were just a bit too small so I put Lucy to work, she always seems to pull me out of card making issues with just the right help. And it only took 2 tries to get my star the right size.
I made my card for one of my co-workers...she decided today to take another job for the next school year to teach in Nebraska and so many are giving her such a difficult time about her decision so I thought this sentiment was perfect for her. Thank you so much for taking the time to stop by...enjoy your holiday weekend!

  2. This is such a fantastic card--Lucy cuts the most amazing stars. I love that you used a star instead of a circle, and how kind of you to be so supportive of your coworker. I love all the little stars you have scattered as well.

  5. What a great card! I love the star shapes, and the star sequins (I never knew ...) and I agree that this sentiment seems very sweet given the situation. Very supportive. Hugs!

  9. First, how wonderful you spent time with Harriet and Darnell, sharing goodies and cinnamon chip scones! Awesome on all counts (and yep, I'm a bit green with envy!!). Second, your card is not only a unique take on the sketch and fitting for the Memorial Day weekend, but oh, how you'll lift the spirit of your friend! Isn't it funny that, as teachers, we're pretty good at encouraging students to 'test their wings' by taking on new challenges and experiences, but when it comes to our colleagues...well, things change. Hopefully, your card, combined with your encouragement and support, will see your friend feel affirmed about her decision. We need to follow our hearts, and reach for the stars. What a most wonderful gift you are to your friend who's feeling such pressures; what a wonderful gift you are to all of us! Hugs~c

  14. This is another stunner!! Talk about crisp, clean and colourful. I love the way you used the colours with white and having the blue as the central colour. Those sweet silver stars are scattered perfectly too. And that sentiment...well,....how thoughtful it is and appropriate for your poor friend. Why do people think they have the right to push others with their ideas of right and wrong. I'm sure she took a long time to decide she was making the right choice and thank goodness she has you there to support her. She will love this card!!
